Amgueddfa Syr Henry Jones Museum

Learn about life in a typical Victorian Welsh community at the Sir Henry Jones Museum. The museum is housed in Sir Henry’s childhood home in Abergele.

Sir Henry Jones was an eminent professor of moral philosophy at Glasgow University, and he had a major influence on the education system in Wales.

He left school aged 12 and he worked with his father, the village shoemaker by day, returning to his books at night.

Eventually, he won a scholarship to train in teaching. Wander through the tiny kitchen and bedroom where a family of six once ate and slept.

You can also see the shoemakers’ workshop and listen in on a conversation between the shoemakers. The museum is open between the end of May and the end of September.
