Big Pool Wood

Big Pool Wood allows visitors to get close to wildlife at their reed bed and woodland nature reserve.

Packed with plant and birdlife, there’s plenty to explore here. A visit during the spring will see the woodland transform into a vivid blue carpet of bluebells as the reeds echo with the sounds of the reed warblers arriving from winter in Africa.

The bluebells make way for woodland wildflowers in the summer as mallards, coot and moorhen fly through the reeds.

Part of the Dee Estuary Special Protection Area, Big Pool Wood provides shelter and cover for wetland birds and forms part of a wildlife corridor for migrating birds.

The corridor stretches along the coast, all the way to Anglesey. There is a circular walk around the pool and along the boardwalks and broad hard surface pathways.
