Chillingham Castle

Chillingham Castle

The 13th-century stronghold Chillingham Castle is famed for its ancient battles, ghost stories and Grade 1 Star status in Northumberland.

Chillingham Castle

The castle is home to fine rooms, gardens, lakes, fountains, tea rooms, and an ownership lineage that dates back to the 1200s.

This thriving and romantic castle is only 20 minutes from the seaside and perfect for family days out or short breaks! Alternatively, for a more chilling experience, face your fears on an evening ghost tour and visit the elusive ‘Torture Chamber’, guaranteed to frighten you.

Enjoy a unique experience and meet wild cattle on the castle grounds.

They are the last wild cow survivors of herds that previously roamed the British woodlands. Pre-Christian pagans revered and sacrificed them to their gods.

This herd afterwards protected and nourished the fortress. All visitors must be accompanied by the Warden, who will take you as near as possible to the animals and explain their recent history and lifestyle. They are rarer than endangered Pandas or Mountain Gorillas and are the world’s only wild cattle.
