Launceston Castle
Launceston Castle Cornwall

Launceston Castle

Set on a large natural mound, is Launceston Castle. The castle was built soon after the Norman Conquest and consists of a 13th century round tower built by Richard, Earl of Cornwall. An earlier keep can be found inside, suggesting the existence of an earlier castle in its place.

Launceston Castle is open to visitors and the top of the tower can be reached via an internal staircase. From the top of the tower, visitors can see stunning views of the historic town and the magnificent surrounding countryside.

On-site visitors can explore the long history of the castle including its time as a prison. Visitors are also welcome to picnic within the grounds.

Discover this picturesque set of ruins on your next Cornwall day out…
