When you reach the summit, the world opens up in front of you, exposing a patchwork of emerald valleys and glistening streams. On a clear day, the views stretch all the way to Scotland and Wales.

 Slieve Binnian Weather

Prepare for changing weather by wearing durable footwear. As this is a high point, the weather can be unpredictable so do ensure you wear waterproof clothing.

The walk up Slieve Binnian affords breath-taking panoramic views of the surrounding area, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.

1. Trailhead: The walk usually begins at the car lot at Carrick Little Cottage. As you start your ascent, you’ll be surrounded by the tranquil splendour of the Mourne Mountains.

2. Annalong Forest: The hike’s first section takes you through Annalong Forest. The trail winds through beautiful trees, providing a tranquil and shady environment that is especially pleasant on hot days.

3. Blue Lough Viewpoint: After exiting the woodland, you’ll come to a viewpoint overlooking the beautiful Blue Lough. This serene lake reflects the sky and nearby peaks, creating a gorgeous landscape ideal for a little pause and some memorable shots.

4. Binnian Lough: Continue on the trail until you reach Binnian Lough. This little, attractive lake is tucked among the mountains, and its reflection frequently reflects the peaks and clouds above, adding to the landscape’s appeal.

5. The North Tor: As you ascend, you’ll come upon the North Tor, a group of spectacular granite rock formations. These granite outcrops provide a good vantage point for admiring the surrounding valleys and peaks.

6. Slieve Binnian Summit: Reaching the summit of Slieve Binnian is a gratifying experience. On clear days, you’ll be treated to stunning 360-degree views of the Mourne Mountains, the Irish Sea, and even as far as the Isle of Man at 747 metres (2,451 feet) above sea level.

7. The Back Castles: Descending from the summit, you’ll come across the Back Castles, a collection of different rock formations that resemble an ancient fortress. These natural formations provide an amazing natural spectacle.

8. The South Tor: Another highlight of the path is the South Tor. These massive granite tors are visually appealing and make an excellent backdrop for photography. The view from here allows you to appreciate the Mourne Mountains’ unique geology.

9. Wee Binnian and the Brandy Pad: As you descend farther, you’ll reach Wee Binnian, a lower hill with even better vistas. You can continue along the Brandy Pad, a historic smugglers’ route that meanders through the Mournes, connecting several peaks and valleys, from here.

10. Loop Completion: The trail finally returns you to the beginning, completing the loop. The entire walk is a fantastic excursion that showcases the Mourne Mountains’ unique splendour.
