Weavers’ Way

One of the best walks in Norfolk has to be the long-distance trail of Weavers’ Way, stretching for 61 miles the trail offers you a one-stop tour of some of Norfolk’s most popular destinations. The path begins in the coastal village of Cromer, renowned for its beautiful beach, the Amazona Zoo, and having its own BANKSY artwork.  

From Cromer, you will wander through a diverse range of landscapes, including woodlands, disused railway lines, rivers, farmland, and grand country estates. Before reaching the famous Norfolk Broads AONB. Within The Broads, home to a wealth of animals including otters, kingfishers, and Chinese Water Deer.  

After hiking through The Broads, you can easily follow the trail to the bustling town of Great Yarmouth. Home to the vibrant Pleasure Beach, the Time and Tide Museum, and the National Trust – Elizabethan House.  

If you don’t fancy completing the whole trail, the path can be split into shorter linear walks where you can still soak up the surrounding beauty of Weavers’ Way. The route also links with several other popular Norfolk Trails, including Marriott’s Way and the Norfolk Coast Path.

Directions

  1. Starting point: Start the trail at Cromer Pier before wandering through the grand Felbrigg Hall’s grounds. The path will then lead you through the charming villages of Sustead, Hanworth, Aldborough
  2. National Trust – Blickling Estate: Cross through the Blickling Estate and continue on, making your way through the villages of Ingworth and Erpingham. From Erpingham, you can follow the trail to Aldborough where you can enjoy a drink in the Cricketers on The Green.
  3. Aylsham: From Aldborough follow the path to Aylsham, renowned for its historic workhouse, where you will pass through and walk along the former railway beds that have since been repurposed as you make your way towards Hicking.
  4. Hickling & The Norfolk Broads: From Hicking, you will venture into the scenic Norfolk Broads, following Candle Dyke and the River Thurne until you reach the River Bure. Continue along the river until you reach Acle.
  5. Great Yarmouth: From Acle you will pass through the villages of Tunstall and Halvergate, before reaching the Halvergate Marshes. Hike through the marshes until you reach the River Yare which you can follow to Breydon Water, eventually leading you to Great Yarmouth.
