Wharfedale Cottages
Welcome to our Wharfedale cottages located in one of the
National Park's longest and most beautiful dales. Often split
into 'Upper' and 'Lower' Wharfedale, upstream and
downstream from Grassington and Threshfield, it's a region of
glorious countryside dotted with scenic towns and villages.
The National Trust in Upper Wharfedale…
Much of this area is protected by the National Trust and
it's an absolute delight to explore whether you prefer to
travel on two or four feet, or by two or four wheels. The rolling
landscape is a mix of flower-filled meadows, rocky white scars and
dry stone walls. The walking is fantastic, as are the views - if
you're feeling energetic, trek to the top of Buckden Pike and
you'll see what we mean! Follow the Dales Way along the River
Wharfe and spot all sorts of wildlife like kingfishers and sand
martins. Visit the ancient stone circle at Yockenthwaite. Glimpse
tiny, hand-carved mice in the oak pews of Hubberholme Church.
Grassington is a charming village and fantastic base to
book a Wharfedale cottage. It is home to the Dales
Visitor Centre - great for leaflets on local walks, attractions etc
- and hosts a popular Dickensian Festival in December. Other lovely
villages include Burnsall, Kettlewell and Kilnsey - the latter
famous for its crag, an awesome overhanging cliff for the
experienced climber.
Hungry? Enjoy a riverside picnic at Bolton Abbey, with its many
nature trails, footpaths and ruined priory. Or splash out and dine
the Michelin-starred way in the stylish spa town of Ilkey. The
choice is always yours when you book a cottage in Wharfedale!
