The beautiful Norfolk landscape abounds with peaceful waterways, romantic old buildings, secluded beaches, and enchanting, hidden spaces. It’s a county that seems made for popping the question.

There are all sorts of perfect locations to get down on one knee, but we’ve pulled together our top picks of the most romantic places to propose in Norfolk.

Amongst the snowdrops at Walsingham Abbey

This is a really special one. Looked over by the dramatic ruins of the ancient abbey, make your way along the woodland dell that’s carpeted with snowdrops early each year.  As you wander the peaceful path and cross the ancient footbridge over the gently flowing River Stiffkey, the flowers just seem to go on and on forever all around.

Hauntingly beautiful, it’s the perfect location for a proposal. To catch these delicate blooms in their prime, head there on a bright, crisp day in February. You won’t be disappointed!

Looking out from the Gazebo at Sheringham Park

Sheringham Park is a gorgeous 19th-century estate that absolutely screams romance. This stunning park and woodland are famous for their pathways of brightly coloured rhododendrons, as well as the elegant stone Gazebo at the top of the hill that offers up a breathtaking panorama across the countryside and along the North Norfolk coast. Imagine strolling hand-in-hand amid the heavenly aromas of the flowers before dropping to one knee while the one you love gazes out at all the surrounding beauty. How could anyone say no?

Watching the sunrise at Holkham Beach

The beautiful beach at Holkham National Nature Reserve is an untouched stretch of white sand, backed by deep pine woods and bordered by salt marshes. Voted the UK’s top beach in recent years, there are miles of pristine beach to explore. Watching the sun rise snuggled up together in a blanket here is a dreamy and intimate way to ask your special someone to marry you.

The beach was actually the location for a heartfelt walk in the classic 90s film, Shakespeare in Love. So, if it’s good enough for a Shakespearean romance, it’s good enough for us.

Between the columns of The Temple, Blickling Estate

Built in the style of an Ancient Greek sanctuary, popping the question atop the steps of this 17th-century Temple folly in the gorgeous, four and a half thousand acre Blickling Estate ,is like summoning up all the romance of an Austen novel in one go. As you stand before the doorway, the vista of the immaculate gardens as you look back along the avenue towards Blickling Hall is really something to behold. Mr. Darcy himself couldn’t ask for more.
