    (they said they had sent us an email)My wife mentioned that I use a wheelchair and they failed to tell us about the 2 large steps into the property, which meant I needed assistance to get into the house and therefore could not go out alone, when the rest of the family went out for the day. On arrival at the property we had already arranged with the owners to park by the entrance to unload, and again we were told off for doing this. The property was OK, but not very clean and they have a fly ...

On arrival at the property we had already arranged with the owners to park by the entrance to unload, and again we were told off for doing this. The property was OK, but not very clean and they have a fly problem, we were inundated and this proved rather uncomfortable. On the plus side, the house is very nicely decorated, they have clearly changed some of the furnishings, since the photos were taken. We found the area beautiful, we did enjoy our break, after we sorted out these issues.

Knapp House Cottages

A group of four wonderful holiday apartments set within two wings of Knapp House, close to the village of East Anstey and just four miles from Dulverton, the gateway to Exmoor. These properties each have their own unique style which reflects the history of the house. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the large mature gardens including the kitchen garden which is slowly being reclaimed. There are plenty of places to relax including a large cedar summer house which enjoys lovely views across the gardens and beyond. Knapp House is a beautiful example of a country house designed in the Arts and Crafts style and built in the early 1900s as a hunting lodge. Knapp House also offers local organic veg and salad boxes, as well as breakfast boxes to order. Once a month there is a pop-up pub in the house, an opportunity for guests to meet the locals and have something to eat and drink. The setting is tranquil and private and is the perfect retreat from which to explore the best of Exmoor, such as long sandy beaches at Woolacombe and Saunton, spectacular moorland scenery, breathtaking walks through the Barle Valley or any number of National Trust properties or historic sites such as Dunster Castle. There’s also numerous excellent pubs and restaurants a short distance away. Exmoor is extremely dog friendly and for the more active there are multiple activities, including riding, shooting, canoeing, wild swimming, surfing and mountain biking.

This ground floor holiday accommodation has retained the shooting lodge style of the original house but with a contemporary twist.

Its front door opens into a small lobby, ideal for coats and boots and there is a welcoming, comfortable sitting room with a separate kitchen and small dining area.

The king-size and twin bedrooms both have walk-in wet rooms making them ideal for guests with limited mobility.

This cottage is ideal for a couple or small family.

The village of East Anstey lies in the heart of beautiful unspoilt countryside, four miles from the picturesque market town of Dulverton. Known as the gateway to Exmoor, Dulverton offers the River Barle, which flows under a Grade I listed, 3000 year old stone clapper bridge. The town also boasts pretty buildings and medieval winding streets, along with a wealth of award winning restaurants and pubs, quality gift shops and tea rooms. The spectacular North Devon coast is within driving distance with the picturesque villages of Lynton and Lynmouth well worth visiting. Spend a day at the wonderful sandy beaches of Croyde Bay, Woolacombe and Saunton Sands, all of which provide fabulous opportunities for surfing. East Anstey is an ideal base to explore the magnificent rolling landscapes of Exmoor and the dramatic North Devon coastline.
