Travel to Fort William by road

If you’re travelling to Fort William from England by car, take either the M6 or M1 Northbound.

If following the M6, continue along the A/M74 until Glasgow and then change to the M8. Change for A82 and follow signs for Fort William.

If you are travelling along the M1, continue when it changes to the A1 and continue towards Edinburgh. Leaving Edinburgh, take the M9 to Sterling, then the A84 leading to the A85 finally changing on to the A82 and following signs for Fort William.

Travel to Fort William by train

Fort William is serviced by a number of rail routes and the train presents an easy and scenic option for travelling to the remote Scottish location.

There is also a London to Fort William sleeper service ran by Caledonian Sleeper, which runs daily from London Euston directly to Fort William.

Travel to Fort William by plane

A lot of people choose to travel to Fort William by plane; Glasgow Airport is only 98 miles from Fort William, while Edinburgh Airport is 150 miles.

Inverness airport is the closest at only 78 miles, but it is serviced by a limited number of flights.

Glasgow and Inverness airports both run connection coach services that run to Fort William and the surrounding area.
