Action Funder

Over the past year, we’ve pledged to make a positive contribution to our people, planet, and communities. With this in mind, we’re pleased to present a selection of Action Funders projects that we’ve supported in the last year.

Within the report, you will find how we’ve helped a number of charities over 2022 and lived up to our promise of becoming a better business.

Below you’ll find some of the projects we’ve supported with donations over 2022…

What is Action Funder?

Action Funder is a digital platform that brings responsible businesses together with community groups and charities to make change happen.

As we are building towards becoming a certified B Corporation, our Impact Report states that we pledge to give quarterly grants for community and charity projects across the UK, hoping to make a positive social impact on communities.

1. Teen Packs, Calderdale Lighthouse, Halifax, Yorkshire

The charity supports the vulnerable and disadvantaged with baby equipment and essential items.

Teen Packs

Our grant will fund the ‘Teen Packs’ project for 12 months providing toiletry packs to senior schools for around 400 children. Packs provide toiletries, dental care and sanitary wear (where applicable) for students identified as being vulnerable and disadvantaged and reduce bullying and absenteeism while promoting good hygiene habits.

This aligns with our sustainable development goals: (1) no poverty; (3) good health and wellbeing; (5) gender equality; (10) reduced inequalities.

2. Training for Trauma Risk Management Practitioners, Mon Search and Rescue, Anglesey

Volunteer-run service supporting the community and visitors to Anglesey.

Training for Trauma Risk Management Practitioners

Our grant will train two members to become Trauma Risk Management Practitioners. These are non-medical personnel who have undergone specific training allowing them to provide ongoing mental health and well-being support following traumatic search and rescue incidents. The implementation has benefitted many organisations legally (by providing a duty of care); economically (by keeping people at work) and morally (by looking after personnel).

This aligns with our sustainable development goals: (3) good health and well-being.

3. Fish, Chips and Chatter, Yorkshire Coast Sight Support, Scarborough.

The charity provides assistance to people with sight impairments.

Fish and Chips Chatter

Following the impacts of Covid, a lack of social inclusion is not only common with anyone with a visual impairment, but it is also a national problem. Some have forgotten what it is like to laugh, smile and chat with others. Our grant will fund a fish and chip lunch enabling 70 visually impaired people, many of whom are socially isolated, to come together and enjoy a traditional British seaside activity. What better way to bring people together than with some cod and potatoes?

This aligns with our sustainable development goals: (3) good health and well-being; (10) reduced inequalities and supports our environmental OKRs.

4. Studley Dementia Allotments, Stratford Upon Avon.

Run by Voluntary Action Stratford Upon Avon charity which connects people through community activities and enables people to live their lives fully.

Dementia Allotments

Our grant will fund the weekly gardening group, at the dementia-friendly garden, for 12 months benefiting those living with dementia and their carers. The community allotments are been specifically designed to be a friendly space for those living with dementia, allowing those patients to get outdoors and socialise.

This aligns with our sustainable development goals: (3) good health and well-being; (10) reduced inequalities and supports our environmental OKRs.

5. Countryside Mobility, Exeter, Devon.

The charity provides easy access to the countryside for anyone who has difficulty walking via an off-road mobility scooter hire scheme.

The Pitch

Our grant will refurbish two Tramper scooters which will give around 50 people every year access to the countryside, enabling easy access to the South West’s beauty spots for those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to. The scheme was established in 2010 and is operated by a user-led organisation working to help those with disabilities and hearing impairments.

This aligns with our sustainable development goals: (3) good health and well-being; (10) reduced inequalities and supports our environmental OKRs.
