  • "This is our 4th time at Stanley House."

Each time we visit we do not fail to make happy memories, it is undoubtably a multi-generation pleaser (our family spanning the ages of 9 to 80). You couldn’t ask for a better location and the two parking bays are such a massive bonus. The property is set over 4 floors and each floor has is own uniqueness that just keeps drawing us back year after year. Wow, that welcome hamper was such a lovely and unexpected surprise. Our hats off to the cleaning crew who do an amazing job cleaning this grade II listed Georgian building to a spotless condition.

  • "We enjoyed our stay and the location was great for us."

Good space and cleanliness. Lounge area would benefit from a makeover over the winter to raise the standard. We came in our mini as our main car was 15cm longer than the guidance notes for parking. When we arrived at the car parking area we could see that this would not have been an issue at all which left us rather frustrated. Otherwise a good visit.

  • "We've stayed at Stanley House for three years running and it never disappoints."

The mending of the lounge armchair was so appreciated by us all but especially my parents, who just love to sit in that bay window and watch the world sail by. A massive thank you to Dream Cottages, who 'recovered' our slow cooker and have posted it on to us - after we so stupidly left it behind. Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy such an amazing property. We hope to be back next year! x

  • "We had a wonderful holiday staying at Stanley House."

Its location on the edge of the harbour was a delight. Having said that, there were issues with the accommodation: The house is a wonderful old building, but, once you step inside, it’s definitely shabby – and we understand this is an old building which will have inherent issues – the hall carpet is particularly dirty, maybe a tiled or wooden floor would be easier to keep clean. The first floor living room looks out on to the harbour,, but the windows have not been cleaned for some time, so it’s actually difficult to see out of them. Furthermore, there is a seriously dilapidated leather chair in the window bay which is unusable, (plenty of other reviewers have pointed this out but obviously no action has been taken to rectify the issue). The kitchen is small and reasonably well equipped. We couldn’t find the instructions for the induction hob. There is a small outside area off the second landing but when we arrived it hadn’t been cleaned and the Astro turf was crumpled. There are a number of issues with windows, some will not open at all (a serious problem with the summer weather) and the elderly secondary double glazing has to be handled with care. What comes across throughout the house is a general air of neglect. The sad thing is that this has been brought up in plenty of other reviews but it would seem neither the owners nor Dream Cottages ever address the issues; this is a shame because all Stanley House needs is a good dollop of TLC to make it absolutely wonderful.

  • "We had a very enjoyable stay at Stanley House."

The property was clean and well presented with the addition of some quirky decoration. The location was ideal for us with plenty of places to eat within walking distance. The surrounding area had plenty of interesting things to do. The start of our week there combined the end of half term,a local music festival and the Queen's jubilee which made it very busy this soon changed after the weekend.

  • "This property is in a lovely location and has wonderful potential but sadly is a bit tired and dirty."

The entrance hall is has an overwheleming smell of damp and the carpets are really grubby. We also found we could not access the property by car during the day during our stay as an event was taking place on the road too the property and it was closed to vehicles throughout the day, we ende up having to pay to park in town and collect the car later in the evening - not ideal with kids and could have done with a heads up that this would be the case. Aside from this its a great spot for crabbing straight of the harbour wall outside the house which the children loved.

  • "Great property in a great location."

House was very clean when we arrived and all utilities were in good working order and beds were very comfy. Only slight issues were the comfort of one of the window seats in the upstairs living room (springs and cushion had blown and very uncomfortable), the kitchen cabinets etc. could do with a bit of work (loose handles) and quite a few of the windows wouldn't open albeit there were signs informing of this. Overall though a great stay and would love to return

  • "Stanley House is in a great location on the lovely Weymouth Harbour, very close to town and a wide range of great restaurants and pubs and the beach."

For us the town house was a great as it had lots of space for all the guests which included two children. With all the different levels and areas there was enough room for everyone to have their own space or to all spend time together. The house is a little tired it's true but some of this added to the charm of the old property and didn't bother us. However, some features definitely do need updating. The furniture in the main living room needs some attention. We were very much looking forward to sitting in the chairs in the bay window overlooking the harbour as shown in the pictures online but both were so old and damaged as to be unusable, which was a real disappointment. The sofas were also quite uncomfortable and one of the more elderly members on our trip found them quite hard to get out of as they were so soft. Likewise, the bed in the master bedroom was also a bit uncomfortable with a strange foam topper on the mattress which has seen better days. The kitchen could also use some attention - there were only 4 teaspoons for our stay, no scissors and the crockery is very old with lots of cracks. But there were loads of good size mugs, which was great. It was also really good to have a washing machine and airers provided for drying. Although not an issue in the warmer months, it was a bit chilly during our stay in March and the heating in the house was a bit of an issue with the house quite chilly when we arrived and not all the radiators worked. Overall we enjoyed our stay and Stanley House was a great base but it does need some attention to make it just that bit more comfortable for guests.

  • "We loved our stay, but have a couple of things we would like to mention."

No one had been in to clean for a while up on top floor as lots of dead flies on staircase/floor. Dirty bed linen waiting to be washed still in master bedroom basket. Back door unlocked on arrival. Would like better light in en suite bathroom.

  • "Great location with the bonus of parking."

Bed in master bedroom was really comfortable. Outside terrace was a lovely spot for relaxing in the sun. The house would suit adult groups better than young families but the top two bedrooms were small and a long way from facilities. The settees are ready for replacing offering little support . One of the chairs in the window, which is a beautiful spot to sit and watch the world go by, is very uncomfortable and no matter how many cushions you put on it, the hard lump is still apparent. The house would really benefit from an upgrade and some TLC. Weymouth is definable worth a visit and this house is a nice spot to explore from., away from the noise and busyness of the town centre but close enough to walk to bars and restaurants.

  • "Overall Stanley House is great, especially the location right on the harbour and close to pubs, restaurants and beaches."

However, considering the cost, there are a few issues which need to be addressed: * whoever is in charge of cleaning after a party has left, needs to do a better job: there were bits left under furniture, dead roses in a vase in the dining room, lots of cigarette buds in a bucket outside the kitchen and cigarette buds/ash on and around terrace garden furniture, cutlery and crockery not clean * some of the windows can’t be opened, which in hot weather is not good * front door is extremely difficult to open * En-suite shower - both handles fall off/are broken and it is very difficult to turn water on and off * toilet handle in main bathroom keeps falling off * instruction on how to find main switch for hob/oven needs to be included in folder

  • "It was disappointing that the kitchen had so little in it."

There were only four wine glasses none of which matched for eight guests. The plates are scratched and chipped. No scales for any baking or measuring of ingredients. We had old and young and enjoyed lunches out but wanted to cook in the evenings and there are only two small saucepans for eight guests. I was annoyed at this.

Superb location and convenient for activities. Parking spaces a serious bonus. Heating system needs looking at - some radiators could not be turned down/off, and several windows unable to be opened. Top floor ceiling height to access bedrooms restrictive. But a good time was had. Thank you.

  • "It is the first Christmas holiday we have booked where there was no welcome hamper (even just a small loaf and a pint of milk would have been nice) but may be that is just Sykes/the owner's approach."

The Christmas tree was appreciated. It is a lovely house in a great location and has very good quality equipment (not your 'run of the mill' toaster, kettle and iron !) .Fortunately the Dream Cottages office was nearby and the staff were very helpful sorting out the blocked shower , locating a delivery from Royal Mail (which had arrived before us and been put on top of the freezer) as well as providing a table lamp for the utility room, so we could see how to use the dishwasher and washing machine, as the ceiling light had a broken bulb holder.

The property

This historic, harbourside cottage occupies one of the most enviable positions in Weymouth, only a few doors from Weymouth Sailing Club and the Lifeboat Station.

There are stunning harbour views from every window overlooking the glistening waters and moored boats, while the bedrooms offer glimpses over Weymouth Beach and beyond.

With the rare addition of two parking spaces, this is a true hidden gem in a wonderful part of Dorset, ideal for families or groups of friends.

Through the front door, you will find yourself welcomed into the hallway with a beautiful stained glass door and rope banisters climbing the stairs.

The ground floor offers a large sitting/dining room, where you can unwind in front of the TV or simply admire the scenery through the window with a refreshing drink in hand, before gathering around the dining table for a freshly prepared meal.

The antique petrol pump and boat lights makes a great talking point as you tuck into your dinner.

There is a well-equipped kitchen and utility room with everything you need for cooking up a storm, although be sure to enjoy local fish and chips on the harbourside at least once!

On the first floor, you will find a large family bathroom and another sitting room with spectacular, elevated views over the waterfront, as well as find the first of the bedrooms.

Rise to the second floor to be introduced to the master bedroom, with more stunning vistas reaching over the rooftops to the beach and along the Jurassic Coast.

You will also find a walk-in wardrobe area and large en-suite shower room.

Finally, on the third floor are two more bedrooms both with doubles tucked away in the eaves of the house.

After a long day exploring the local sights, choose to sit and enjoy the seaside sounds with a glass of your favourite tipple out in the small, private courtyard.

If you manage to stop gazing at the views and watching harbour life, then you are ideally located for exploring Weymouth on foot.

Weymouth Beach is just a short rowboat ferry ride across the water, with the rowboat ferry being just paces from the front door.

There are shops, bars and restaurants all within walking distance and of course many fish and chip shops.

Pay a visit to the Nothe Fort and Gardens, which offer spectacular views over Weymouth and Portland with a fabulous history behind it shown in the many displays and exhibits dotted around the site.

Stanley House is a remarkable holiday home in the heart of Weymouth, to be enjoyed the year-round.
