Made up of a National Park and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Yorkshire Dales is one of the most picturesque locations in the country. The mix of quaint market towns and villages, lush forests, rolling hills and wild heather covered moorland makes the dales a popular destination for people worldwide.

Many choose to explore the area on one of the numerous walks in the Yorkshire Dales, immersing themselves in the landscape and wildlife. Popular walks would include the trek over the remote Horsehead Moor, returning by the beautiful River Wharfe, or around the stunning Malham Tarn through ancient limestone pastures. If you are bringing a four-legged friend, there are plenty of dog-friendly walks to be enjoyed in the area, such as the 5-mile circular walk from the village of Grassington to Hebden, traversing through fields and meadows with some fantastic views of the local countryside.

For a challenging option, why not attempt the James Herriot way, a 52-mile track feeding through parts of Swaledale and Wensleydale, usually taking roughly 4-5 days to complete? The route takes in a number of the dales’ famous sites such as Hardraw Force and Bolton Castle, as well as providing walkers with some epic views of the surrounding open moorland and typical landscape of the dales.
