Danby Cottages
Please find below a selection of self catering holiday cottages
to rent in Danby, Yorkshire.
Savour a gentle pace of life and retreat to a Danby holiday
cottage in the pretty village of Danby, gateway to the North York
Moors National Park.
Lovers of the countryside adore this stunning region - and with
good reason. Woodland, moorland, farmland, dry-stone walls,
interesting old buildings - everything you could wish for is here
amidst a gloriously tranquil setting.
Make your first port of call The Moors National Park Centre, an
award-winning visitor centre on the banks of the Esk offering all
kinds of information on things to see and do in the area, including
the best walks and cycle routes. There's also an indoor
climbing wall, outdoor play area, gift shop, tearoom and more. And
do save time for a stroll through Crow Wood in the Centre's
grounds, a natural playground for squirrels and birds and carpeted
with daffodils in spring.
For the best views, head to the top of Danby Beacon or walk across
Duck Bridge, a fine example of a single arched medieval packhorse
bridge, and then on up the hill to Danby Castle, former home of
Catherine Parr.
Explore the village and stock up with delicious breads and cakes
from the local bakery, or sample tasty delights at the traditional
inn. Talking of pubs, the oldest one for miles around can be found
in the nearby village of Ainthorpe.
And don't forget a daytrip to Whitby on the scenic Esk Valley
Railway. That's the great thing about a Danby cottage holiday -
you're in the middle of spectacular countryside, yet only a
stone's throw from the coast.
